TIPS BEFORE YOU COME

Planning your adventure in the Pantanal? Here are our key tips to help you prepare for a smooth, safe, and unforgettable trip:

VISAS & DOCUMENTATION

  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.

  • Some nationalities require a visa to enter Brazil. Please check the official visa portal to confirm if you need one.

  • Important: Starting April 10, 2025, travelers from Australia, Canada, and the United States will need a visa to enter Brazil. If you already have a valid visa in your passport, there’s no need to apply again.

VACCINATIONS & HEALTH

  • Yellow fever vaccination is recommended for travelers coming to the Pantanal and may be required depending on your country of origin.

  • The Pantanal is malaria-free, so antimalarial medication is not necessary unless you're also traveling to the Amazon.

  • Use insect repellent with DEET, and wear long sleeves and pants at sunrise and sunset to avoid mosquito bites (even if there is not a lot of mosquitoes in the Pantanal during the dry season)

 MONEY & TIPPING

  • The local currency is the Brazilian Real (BRL).

  • Most places accept credit cards (Visa and Mastercard).

  • Tipping is not mandatory but always appreciated by local guides and lodge staff.

PACKING ESSENTIALS

When preparing your bags, think light, practical, and protective. Here’s what we recommend:

  • Light, breathable clothing in neutral or light colors (long sleeves for sun & insects)

  • A warmer layer of clothes for cooler days (it can be quite cold on the boat on rainy days)

  • A light rain jacket or poncho

  • Hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen

  • Insect repellent

  • Comfortable shoes

  • Binoculars and camera gear (see below if you're a photographer)

  • Waterproof bags or backpack for electronics

  • Toiletry bag
