North Pantanal

This small group tour is designed for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, and nature lovers seeking to fully immerse themselves in the Pantanal, one of the richest ecosystems on Earth.

Over the course of the journey, the focus is entirely on wildlife: maximizing time in the field, exploring different habitats, and increasing the chances of observing a wide diversity of species in one of the most extraordinary ecosystems in South America.

  • Wild encounters: Get up close with jaguars in the best places on Earth to observe them in the wild, along with giant otters, capybaras, caimans, tapirs, macaws, anteaters and an incredible diversity of birdlife. Safaris by boat in Porto Jofre, combined with 4x4 drives and guided walks along the Transpantaneira, maximize your chances to observe and photograph wildlife exhibiting incredible natural behaviors.

Detailed  Itinerary

DAY 1 /18 September |  Transfer to Pousada Piuval and First Safaris

Meet your naturalist english, portuguese or french speaking guide. He will either be a wildlife vet, a biologist and/or a wildlife photographer. You will head to the Pantanal, by private transfer. After having lunch in the small city of Poconé, you will arrive at the wonderful Pousada Piuval. 

Upon arrival, enjoy a guided walk through the surrounding trails to spot marmosets, howler monkeys, and hyacinth macaws. In the late afternoon, embark on a private sunset safari, where the golden light enhances the natural beauty of the wetlands and wildlife. As night falls, experience a magical nocturnal private safari under the star-filled sky, observing creatures that are active after dark.Throughout your stay, you may encounter an incredible range of species, including giant anteaters, tapirs, caimans, capybaras, marsh deer, peccaries, howler monkeys, macaws, jabirus, and even jaguars or pumas.

DAY 2 /19 September |  Full day of ildlife Activities

At dawn, embark on an early morning safari, the most active time for wildlife at Piuval. This is when you have the best chance to observe and photograph giant anteaters, tapirs, tamanduas, and other elusive species. 

After breakfast, a second activity is scheduled around 9:00 AM. Depending on your interests, this may be a horseback ride, a guided safari, or a walking trail combined with an observation tower, each offering different perspectives on the Pantanal’s rich ecosystems.

During the hottest hours, return to the lodge for some rest or enjoy the pool.

In the afternoon, around 3:00 PM, head out for a third activity, again alternating between horseback riding, safari drives, or guided trails with tower observation, maximizing wildlife encounters across different habitats.

At 6:00 PM, depart for a night safari, an excellent opportunity to discover the Pantanal’s crepuscular and nocturnal species before returning for dinner.

Day 3 / 20 September | Dawn Safari and Transfer to Porto Jofre

Before dawn, set out on another early morning safari, followed by a second activity at 9:00 AM after breakfast.

After a hearty breakfast, set off toward Porto Jofre, a journey of approximately 4–5 hours along the iconic Transpantaneira, one of the world’s most renowned wildlife roads. Along the way, your eyes and camera will be drawn to caimans sunbathing on riverbanks, capybaras grazing in the wetlands, and thousands of birds filling the skies.

Keep an eye out for marsh deer, yellow anacondas, and other unexpected wildlife encounters, as every turn along this road offers new photographic opportunities.

​Upon arrival in Porto Jofre, check in at your riverside lodge,  the perfect base for the next three days of jaguar-focused expeditions.

Days 4–6 / 21-23 September | Jaguar and Wildlife Safaris

Three full days dedicated to jaguar observation by boat along the Cuiabá River and its remote tributaries. Accompanied by highly experienced local boat pilots and jaguar trackers, you will explore winding river channels where jaguars hunt, rest, and raise their cubs.
This region offers the highest density of wild jaguars on the planet, providing unparalleled opportunities to observe and photograph these magnificent cats in their natural environment.
In addition to jaguars, you will encounter:
- Giant otters
- Caimans
- Capybaras
- Thousands of riverine birds 
- And maybe more: tapirs, anacondas etc…


Each day on the river is a true wildlife expedition, adapted to animal movements and river conditions to maximize sightings.

Day 7 / 24 September | Return to Cuiabá

Transfer back to Cuiabá for onward flights, concluding an unforgettable wildlife expedition. Enjoy a farewell lunch, a perfect moment to reflect on your journey, share your favorite memories, and exchange photos and stories with your guide and fellow travelers before departure.
